Kolkata Knight Riders name their vice-captain for the season

The 2018 edition of the Indian Premier League is only a month away now. The biggest cricket carnival is all set to entertain the fans yet again. With the tournament nearing the commencement date, the major announcements from the franchises have started to roll out. In a recent development, the Kolkata Knight Riders announced their captain for the season. Seasoned campaigner Dinesh Karthik has been named as the captain of the team.

This certainly comes as a very big responsibility for the veteran cricketer who is trying to resurface his authority at the international level. Karthik has been a perennial performer in the IPL over the years, and the Kolkata Knight Riders would hope that Karthik performs the same way for them. Meanwhile, another big appointment was made by the KKR camp.

They announced Karthik’s deputy for the season as well. Veteran Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa has been named as the vice-captain of the Knight Riders. Uthappa has been a key member of the KKR camp for quite some time now. In fact, he was also among the top contenders to be the next captain of the franchise. Uthappa has amassed over 3000 runs in the IPL and is a handy wicketkeeper batsman in the shortest format of the game.

New look KKR set for another glory stint?
The new look Kolkata Knight Riders resemble to the unit that was restructured back in the 2011 season. Back then, it had worked wonders for them under the then new captain Gautam Gambhir. Kolkata Knight Riders went on to win two IPL titles under his leadership.

This year, Gambhir parted ways with the KKR camp and was bought by the Delhi Daredevils at the IPL auctions. While the Delhi Daredevils would hope that Gambhir’s leadership skills come to the fore for them, the KKR camp would hope that Karthik and Uthappa duo pull off a ‘Gambhir’ for them under their new roles.
